The goal of the Genetic Resources breeding program
is philosophically different than most, however it
remains simple, straightforward, and focused. Our
goal is to provide consistently transmitted genetics
that positively affect net profit for commercial
cow-calf producers. While our goal is certainly not
glamorous
to most, nor quickly realized, we believe it offers
unique value to our clients.
Achieving our goal requires genetic focus on the
production of what we term "back-to-basics"
genetics.
We expect our cattle to thrive in a challenging
environment, while consuming poor quality feedstuffs
and requiring minimum labor. Largely forgotten by
many in the industry today, we feel this focus is
essential
to profitable commercial cattle production.
Nearly four decades of breeding Angus cattle has
taught us to avoid extremes in type, production, and
genetics. Extremes are seldom, if ever, consistent
or sustainable over time and lead producers to
believe
you can maximize and sustain traits without
significant antagonisms. Instead of breeding for
extremes, profitability and consistency are the
factors used to assess genetic progress here at Genetic
Resources.
