The mission of Genetic Resources
is to improve the profitability of our clients in
the cow-calf sector of the beef industry, by
providing relevant genetics and effective management
strategies.

A DIFFERENT PHILOSOPHY…
The goal of most commercial cow-calf operations is
to maximize profitably by converting cellulose to
pounds
of calf. Maximum profit is key because at
some point the cost of adding pounds of calf is
greater than the value of the pounds added. Thus,
there is an optimum, beyond which profitability is
decreased.
Genetic Resources cattle are genetically designed to
produce offspring with the potential to reach the
optimum profit needs in many environments. Through
the use of multi-trait selection, predictable
genetics, line breeding and the ability to thrive on
low quality forages Genetic Resources cattle are
uniquely designed compared to most Angus genetics
available today. Cattle resulting from these focused
Genetic Resources strategies have a phenotype
characterized by moderate size, added muscle and
dimension that are lacking in most Angus cattle
today. In addition to an ability to produce
offspring at optimum levels and a largely unique
phenotype Genetic Resources cattle also contain what
we refer to as crucial traits. Traits such as a good
disposition, require minimal labor inputs and have
the will to survive on their own are a few traits we
would describe as crucial.
Genetic Resources cattle thrive in lower input
environments, require less labor and no crutches to
get them
to produce. While this approach to breeding cattle
is far from glamorous or quick, we feel it delivers
the most value to our clients. We use these genetic
strategies not to produce “the one” for bragging
rights; rather our interest is producing groups of
consistent, predictable cattle for our clients.
Cattle our clients can use to improve the
profitability of their cow herds and provide them
with the traits that made the Angus cow the envy
of the beef industry.
